Mildenhall Lodge Ministry
Second Sunday every other month
Mildenhall Lodge is a 60 bed nursing and care home on the St Johns estate in Mildenhall. It is not run by any religious organisation, but is primarily a commercial concern. However, as its residents are a cross section of the local society, there are a number who are professing Christians. These had requested that some form of religious services should be held in the home, as most of them are unable to attend their local churches any more.
To this end, KCM has a shared ministry with the parish church of St Mary in the town, each church providing six services a year, so that on the second Sunday of every month there is an act of worship in the MLCH lounge. Between 15 and 20 residents regularly attend, along with a few of the care workers and other staff from the home, and five or six members of KCM.
For those residents who have a Christian faith, this is an opportunity for them to remember that they are still valued members of Christ’s church. For others it is a chance to bring back memories of hymns and stories they may not have heard since they were in school. They all certainly love to sing!
After services our team enjoy interacting with the residents and building up friendships. Even those whose memories are now fading recognise regular visitors and value the relationships we are able to build with them.
